I had no idea about the shiners. I've always associated them with fish we caught in traps on small , slow creeks. Funny that you use the term roach. Isn't there European fish that goes by the same name? Kind of like Bream. I've heard a lot of European/English names and terms used in some of the backwoods I fish , guess it's a holdover from the "original" settlers , or just the common names most of us know?

Either way , I'll mention it to the biologists here next time I see them. You know i always appreciate your esteemed opinion :)
