King, THANKS! Lots of great info there. I was going to leave my heavy bass rod home but may bring it along to sling hardware while having the surf rod soaking bait. Looking forward to that part of the trip anyway. If things don't pan out where we're located my son and I may head a bit more south to see what kind of action we can pick up.

I have a couple of the rigs that are mentioned in the link so we'll see what might work best.
