You young uns are sooo lucky to have modern day equipment..
I can remember when I started fishing (40s) only fishing line available to me was CUTYYHUNK made from linen.
We had to remove the live from the reel after every fishing trip, wash in soap and water,
rinse well, then wind it on a special line winder about the size of a gal paint can..then let it dry for 24 hours.
Rods were bamboo and needed to be washed also...
Didn't have much else to do in those days, so it wasnt much of a chore. At least not for me...
Nylon came along after WW2 and everything changed, guess not just for fishing either.
