That's about what I do except I've been using the Reel Maqic stuff because it doesn't smell as strong to me. I also use a tiny bit of grease on the gears when I have them apart. If I'm fishing for a whole week I normally just rinse them every day then take them apart at the end of the week.

Saltwater is tough on your gear , so losing a reel every once in a while is hard to prevent.
