Guess I have agree to disagree w/ "pipes" post re: reel cleaning:):)

Recommend only using WD 40 on outside of reel. Used inside it will dissolve the grease. Once WD 40 is in there, its just about impossible to remove unless you do complete breakdown and wash each small part. In other words, any WD 40 left inside the reel will breakdown even new grease.

In a nutshell...rinse reel outside after each use. WD 40 outside during periods of non-use. Use only new grease inside, and do that sparingly.

Those steps will make even a cheapie reel last quite a long time.
