tackle treatment

Is there any preventative oils or sprays you can use to help protect your reels from the salt water? I destroyed two bass reals a few years back at the Jersey shore, even after thouroughly rinsing with fresh water after each use. It's tough to completley avoid getting salt water on the reals when surf fishing, or accidentaly getting some sand on them....at least for me.
