i found an easy way to water tomatoes and peppers. cut some 6" pvc pipe into 6" lengths. after you put your plants into the ground, put your 6" pipe around your plant and push down about 2". the pipe will hold the water so it goes straight to the roots. as the plant gets taller, i add a little compost in the pipe. makes watering alot faster.
