I always wondered how they did in sandy soil. Careful with the water , too much can cause trouble with blossom end rot and blight because it leeches nutrients out of the soil.
In my experience ,mulching and keeping even moisture makes a big difference. I think it's about an inch of rain weekly for tomatoes w/ mulch. Not really sure about peppers , but i do know that hot + dry = spicy for most peppers.
I use grass clippings and leaves here , but down on the OBX you might have to buy a little mulch - well worth it! If you ever see them , Red Ox Hearts and Mortgage Lifters are good red tomatoes ; Texas Pineapples and Mountain Golds are good yellows. I've had good luck with those , individual results may vary.
I'm likely to be as bad about talking gardening now as I am with recipes and fishing , it's another passion of mine. This post is legal I said " Fishing " :):)
