Beach replenishment is only economically fesible in areas with multi million dollar hotels and ocean demographics to support it.The tax and rental base on the Banks can not support it.Also the demographics of the Banks being a barrier island and a narrow one at that, make it a costly and futile effort.I have seen one storm clean twenty feet of beach away. How many times do you want to repace that?Sometimes several times in a year. You could maybe do it like the Jersey shore and build jetties every so many miles, but that creates a whole bunch more problems. Also illegal in N.C.Like it or not mother nature is going to rule. You can pile sand on the beach, but it disappeared for a reason. How many tons of sand and other stuff did they throw in front of Hatteras Light before they spent millions to move it? I'm 51 and been around the ocean all my life and one thing I learned you won't tell it what to do.
