I had read about the Daiwa BG reels being a good choice. I read a comment somewhere that their retrieve is pretty rough compared to the newer stuff. However, durability is my number one concern. As long as vibration doesn't make my arm go numb when reeling in, I'm cool with it. I'll definitely take a closer look at these reels.

King wrote, "Tica rod with a 3000 Shimano Stradic". Thanks. I think this is what I'm looking for. I also think I will heed the advice of you and jlmann and make this purchase at a tackle shop. Sounds like hands on before purchase is the way to go here.
