I cured some bait before my summer trip this year and it works, but unless your going somewhere where you don't have access to fresh bait I'm not sure it was worth it. You just can't beat fresh bait. What I did do on my Fall Trip was to Brine my fresh bait when I got there so it lasted the week. It's similar to curing, but you basically put a mixture of sea water, Ice, non-iodized salt (Rock, Pickling, Kosher, Pool - whatever is cheapest) some baking soda and/or Borax and mix up a slurry and throw your bait (Shrimp, mullet, squid, ect.) into the mix. Depending on how your mixture is put together your bait can actually be flash frozen with this mixture and depending on the type of cooler and outside temperature, this bait will stay cold and fresh for the better part of a week. There are a bunch of video's on Youtube and different recipe's out there so I'd suggest trying this. I won't do it any other way going forward. It took me a few times to get it right, but it's the way to go. I leave the big cooler with all my bait in it at the house and then just take a smaller cooler with the bait and some mixture in it to where ever I'm fishing. Good Luck.
