There are no shops just for fly fishing. Ton's of tackle shops around to check in and out, with great staff in almost each and everyone of them to help you out. As for maps *I love the program google earth and it's free =D Alot people are currently wading at the little bridge area of nags head, and below the oregon inlet and really anywhere you can get access. Keep two eyes open for the snakes, cause there are tons, and if your in the water shuffle your feet, the old stingray shuffle.
Over on the sound side, east wind blows the water away from us and blows it toward the mainland and makes the water go down. The west wind will usually blow the wind toward us and stack it up against the coastline and make the water level go up. The sound tides are more wind driven where as on the ocean, they are more lunar driven. The Beach> West wind will make the water cooler and give that brownish tint to it. East wind will usually give the water that nice blue-green tint to it and make it a lot warmer.
Normally Bottom Feeders on the cooler water temps and Top Water Feeders on warmer water days! Hey I dont care what the wind is doing IMMA GONNA BE FISHIN!!! Goodluck!
