How far in did you go? We used to go all the time when I was younger. I've fished most of it , my favorite is a hole about 4 miles in or so.

They stock unbelievable amounts of fish in there. An entire truckload once a week. I've been in there several times when the stock truck came through. The guys stocking it will usually put a net or two in upstream from you if they see you fishing.

I've been on some wild rides getting in and out of there when the roads were snow covered.
