Always fish in Duck, a few miles south of where you will be.The 7' will be fine as long as the surf is down. If it gets a little rough I switch to a stiff 8'. I just switch my 4000 series reels to them. In the bigger surf I use the 3-4 oz. spuntnick type sinkers (the ones with wire).Always use the premiem lines spiderwire etc. with a shock leader.Caught a approx. 60 lb. ray a few years ago with 17 lb spiderwire, 7' Berkley Cherrywood and a Shamano 4000 series reel.It was a lot of fun, I like the lighter tackle. Never caught any macks on live bait, usually use a a Kastmaster for them.Look for deep holes off the beach early in the morning with a high tide.Closest pier is Avalon about 16 miles south.Good luck and tight lines.
