This is my last "Doldrums story"also...I hope.Very cold winter when I was about twelve.Missed school for four or five weeks due to snow.Sledded on "Lewis Hill".It's about 300 yards from bottom to top.First 200 is about thirty degrees, got good speed from that section.Last 100,forty degrees with a flat at the end with a creek at the end of that. One would have enough speed when they got to the last steep part you would only touch the ground three times. One of the guys we sledded with was sharp but did not grasp the concept of gravity. He decided he would fly over the creek with shear speed.Took us a while but we got his head dug out of the opposing bank and took him home.It warmed up enough one day we could roll the snow and decided to build a jump ramp in the flat."Gravity" dude shows up for another challenge.Needs to freeze over night I tried to tell him.Naw he proclaimed,It's good to go. The sled rails stuck on the ramp, braces hung on front of sled, all top teeth came out, slides into creek.Took him home again. The next day I took a "Snow Wing" to the hill,if you guys remember the things. Not a good idea someone suggested. It was fun flying for a few seconds. They took me home.Bones healed well."Gravity Man" has an overbite to this day.
