A friend of mine and I picked up pop bottles out of ditches and took them to "Hurt's Grocery" to cash them in.Got 5-cents a bottle.I was twelve and my friend was fourteen,so that would have been 1969.Our plan was to walk about three miles to a beer shack to get a six pack.If you could reach the window and had cash they would sell it to you.Think they had a step stool around back.Problem with the plan was that we walked past the world famous Ridgewood Barbecue.Would have been our first six pack but we opted for the hickory smoked stuff.Wish kids today would opt. for such things.
