Back in the 70s when many drum were being taken on the pier in Rodanthe I asked a fellow who was resting to kindly move a bit I was going to cast.
I really wasn't smart with him, I'm just not that type.
He seemed a little perturbed about casters bothering him, I suppose I was the drop in the bucket.
The end of the pier was full of rods sitting, waiting for a strike when I yelled heads up, that's when just about everyone ducks, when this fellow just stood there on the rail.
I decided not to cast (heaver 10oz weight) and walked over and asked him to move a bit so he would not get hit if some unforeseen event occurs.
His exact words were "buddy if you hit me with that sinker, you and I are gonna tangle" then proceeded to remain where he was.
Before I left his area I explained to him "mister if you get hit by this 10oz sinker whizzing by your head about 170 miles an hour you ain't gonna be in any condition to tangle with anyone but god"
Well I came to fish, and casting was a part of how I was a gonna do it and I did it safely, he left the area shortly after that.
That sort of ruined my day, however I did make the best of it.
Was I wrong to continue my casting ? I suppose that depended on how the cast went, there wasn't anyone near the rails when anyone cast those heavers.
