When the Jennette's crowd was large they would bungee cord the anchor rods straight up on the pier rail to see who could get the bait out further than everybody else. The person who had their bluefish out the furthest did get the fish a lot of times there. I also wouldn't hold up the fishing by trying to fight a ray and catching some bluefish for their buckets does help especially when they are having to resort to using anything caught.

A good how to below from Avalon Pier if anybody needs it.....
