I use 14 mono on my 7' rod. Usually use it for Specs, Spot and flounder. works well and I agree with concern over it breakin with big fish I tried heavier on the reel and it didn't cast worth a hoot. I use mono on everything, tried the braided one time on my surf rod, got hung up and couldn't get the line to break. Couldn't wait to respool with mono.
