braid vs mono vs florocarbon

It's time to respool my reel and I've read alot of differing opinions on types of line to use. Some prefer braid, others mono and others florocarbon.

Last year I spooled up with 14# spiderwire. It seemed to work fine but I noticed that it abraided easily in the sand surf fishing. I'm interested in everyone's opinion as to what I should respool with this year before I make the trip down.
