I use rods ranging from 6-10wt. The 6wt i use back in the sound with a topwater fly or shrimp pattern for reds. My main rod for the surf and fish not busting on the surface is an 8wt with either an intermediate line or 350gr sinking line. Then I use my 10wt for shark fishing from boats but am thinking about trying it out of my kayak next year. flies used are primarily clousers with the best being chart/white
