You didn't say what time of the year you are down here so I'll guess the summer and most of the fish are on the small side this time of the year unless you are fishing for a particular species. So then you need to know a little more about what you are fishing for to improve your odds of catching a big one. Lets say flounder... use minnows on a incomming tide in clear water soundside of Oregon Inlet bridge. Trigger fish.... use squid on the pier straight down around the pilions when the water is warm and clear. Trout... use grubs in the surf early in the morning when the water is clear. Learn a little more or ask the local tackle shops ( when the store is not full of customers) whats catching and how to catch, they will be glad too help. Good luck
