I just got back from the OBX yesterday. My fishing has been pretty much like yours. Some people have really good luck in the surf, then other like you and I don't have the luck. This year I turned to the sound after randomly trying the surf. I caught spot, croaker (keepers) small trout and something I have no clue. The small bridge (Causeway, one guy on the other side of the road caught something very nice. I couldn't see what it was before he shoved into his cooler) leaving Nags Head toward Manteo was good fishing as well as under the next bridge. After you cross the next bridge you come to a stop light. Turn left and it will lead you under the bridge. There is a nice pier. Both of these places have bathrooms which come in handy.I didn't catch any citations, but I did catch enough to clean and freeze for later this week. I had my best luck with blood worms, small pieces of shrimp and cut bait. I've learned to watch the locals, bait they use and where they cast. IT HELPS. I've been going down for about 15 years and am still learning.
