Alan - Sorry to hear you haven't had success fishing in the surf. Everybody has a bad run from time to time.

What tides are you fishing? In the ocean time of day doesn't matter nearly as much as the tides do. 2 hours before and after high tide have always been good for me. The ideal situation would be if high tide fell at daybreak with a light NE wind. You will catch fish at mid day though , if that's when the tide is in.

I would recommend trying a pier. They are great places to learn about surf fishing and there are usually fish around them. The owners and people who work at the piers want your business , so they will usually try to help you catch fish. And there are a lot of big fish caught from piers on the Outer Banks especially Red Drum.

Don't get discouraged , you'll have a good day eventually and then you'll be an addict like the rest of us.
