My go by don't bother is if the waves are breaking all the way out 200 yards same with fog that is just me and you never know.

The drum are probably enjoying the better rip currents right now look for a foam trail going out. Good picture of one on below.

Around that opening where the waves first start breaking would be the best spot if you can reach it, they like to gather there.
