Cleveland pears only allowed tree lawn tree here in OP land. Nice to start. In 13 years have not seen one break or uproot. Problem tho is the root system. Lots of surface/near surface - killin the surrounding lawn and undermining and breaking adjacent sidewalks. Cutting out those roots causes tree to lean in the direction of the cuts. No win situation.
Mrs. Capt continues a nut when it come to landscaping. Promised not to go overboard at this house - but now worse than the last - for the Capt that has to tend to it all. Not that she's bad, in fact great in choices and location in spite of the unrelenting deer damage. But just too much maintenance to keep all healthy and picturesque. (Like that word??) Have pines, bald cypress, and birch across back lot line. All other plantings must be w/i 3ft. of home/deck foundation. (Again - HOA rules). This Capt opted for ferns and violets all round - for low maintenance. Today can't see any space btw those - all filled w/ perennials and trees. Gold clematis, dwarf peach, honey locust, black pine, red maples, European larch, hynoki cypresses, white pine hybrid (espaliered to provide visual privacy of the porch.) Could go on and on. Summer worse as the pots and planters appear on the deck w/ annuals, along w/ iron lattices w/ climbin vines, a fountain, and a few veggies. Throw in the big umbrella dining table, the stuffed patio set, and deck box and grill and you have party central.
And again...if it ain't on the deck...its deer fodder.
And...you don't have perennial beach green beans??
Thanks for remindin of all the work about to resume w/ spring:):)
