Most people don't want to share, less of a crowd. I think it keeps it alive. One problem I've found and he mentioned is people copying your stuff. It's not worth it to me at this point in time to actually get the stuff copyrighted. No big deal if it's put on somebody's blog, the trouble is with it being used by or sold to major magazines. I don't want to be told by somebody that I had no dealings with that I can't use something I wrote. That's why the fishing tips page was removed on here as was becoming more and more copied. It's outdated but lives on, some of the info is still good.
