Here's my how to that I had posted on my website , (holy crap!) almost 5 years ago , just for the basic bottom rig. Where did that chunk of time go?
http://www.somefishblog.com/2010/10/making-your-own-rig.html
Other than the dropper loop rigs , a lot of the rigs I use go right on the end of my shock leader , so there isn't much use in trying to tie up much to take with you. Drum hooks on a 2 inch leader to a swivel might come in handy , since those knots are tough in heavier line with a short leader. If you ever use straw rigs for mackerel , you can tie those up ahead of time too , but they are tough to store for me because I use 4-5 hooks at least. Some people wrap those on pieces of pool noodles.
Another one you could tinker with , just for the heck of it , is a three way rig. THree way swivel , front swivel to leader/hook , bottom swivel to sinker , and last swivel to shock leader. The idea was to have your hook and sinker leaders about the same length so the whole thing didn't "helicopter" during a cast and cause you to blow up your reel. Some people did OK , I never liked it. About the only place I ever saw it used much was on Rodanthe years ago. Now everybody uses a fish finder with a short leader.
THe beads do seem to help sometimes , though I've caught just as many without. Sometimes blue beads work good with peeled shrimp , maybe when crabs are shedding?
30 is really about as light as I like to tie mine out of. 20 causes lots of twists and seems to get nicks and scratches easier , but 20 will work good when the water is clear , like King mentioned. Let us know how you do!
