Smith Mountain Lake is really an amazing body of water. One of these doldrum days I'll make a post about some of the stuff that's in it and the huge biomass of life it supports for it's size. DGIF expects a lot out of it , and it usually delivers , but development and all that entails has it up in the air at times. Pollution is an issue there too , but not as bad.
I'm actually surprised Stripers never made a big showing in the Great Lakes. Or maybe they did , and I just missed it. I know they have the hybrids in some of the drainage , at least I think. When they found out that real Stripers could make it in freshwater , they put them on trains and scattered them from the East Coast all the way out to CA. A regular "Johnny Striperseed" must have been at work , but most of those populations are long gone due to cessation of stocking , and the Stripers mortality issues in freshwater , plus very limited spawning success... The hybrids are fun , too , and they are just about everywhere , easier to stock and manage , eat less.
I know the prayers help , and you guys have no idea how much it's appreciated. Taking time to have someone in your thoughts , and to bend God's ear on their behalf , is one of the greatest gifts you can give to your fellow man. A simple kindness , that costs nothing , and truly I'm grateful to each of you for your well wishes , prayers , and concern.
I ramble like a little old lady , but really , thanks guys.
