If you look at the threads below , you'll find some links to my blog and also a link to a site ran by the one and only dude. Those should get you started for the "how".

That time of year I would be chunking for drum in any holes I could find on the beach. The world record red drum was caught in November near Rodanthe :) I think the previous record was caught off of the Hatteras Island Pier in Rodanthe ,in Nov. too. Ditch the two hook bottom rig for a fish finder rig or a cannonball rig and put it on a big rod.

Might also pay off if you tried fishing red/chartreuese jigs in the surf.

Don't know about the yaks - it's something I've never really tried. King and some of the others will have advice for you about other areas and different things to try.
