Hey Ted,

Sounds like your staying at or near my house. I've always done best up there fishing around the low tide. Especially in the morning or evening. Casting to the outer bar will give you the best success. I think king is right wind off the water is best. There's a nice hole that forms just in north of the access drive near the last house. That's where I fish. It's a real mixed bag up there that time of year. You just have to get your line in the water and see what's there. I've had some success with artificials but mostly bait. Get yourself a variety fresh bait because you'll never know what the HOT bait is till you get there and TW's tackle is a haul down to the Food Lion shopping center.

If your're staying all the way at the end, use the second access ramp from the end. You'll get stuck if you use the one next to the last house. That one is ok to enter the beach from your house but not to get to your house.

One thing you need to be aware of is that the NC/VA boundary marker is NOT marked properly. The State line is actually about 50 yards to the south marked by a small sign that says welcome to VA. It's important because the Rangers will patrol that area and unless you have a VA license, it could mean trouble. They gave me and some other locals a hard time up there one time and we had licenses but were not fishing in VA.

If you've never stayed on the north beach is a unique experience with bounds of wildlife. I've had deer, horses, pigs, foxes in my driveway. False cape VA state park is nice for walking and shell seekers. Washed woods cemetery and village remains is up there (its about a 2 mi hike) Careful on the back roads after rain some of the puddles can get quite deep and remember to drive slow. There are alot of people and animals on the roads. Enjoy your time and post any questions here.
