I got to be a fan of the sit on top kayak after floating the Allegheny River (Pennsylvania) during high water in a traditional canoe. The stability of the canoe was awful. However, I didn't like fishing from a sit-in kayak either. I then floated in a Mad River canoe (built kind of like a sit on top kayak)which was better, but was too heavy for my wife and I to load and unload and wasn't suitable for ocean use. From there we went to the sit on top kayak which suited our desires perfectly. With the scupper plugs in we have a canoe of sorts for floating fresh water streams and rivers in cooler months and when the scupper plugs are out it's good to go in the ocean and for warm weather fresh water. Basically we knew how we wanted to use it and through a process of elimination got to the sit on top tandem kayak. If you do get a tandem kayak, get the glide and set made by Thule. It makes loading, unloading and transporting so easy that the kayak gets used even when you only have a couple of hours to spare for the trip. It is a great system. Maybe Santa should put one in your stocking this year along with the kayak. Have a wonderful Holiday season. Up here in the Allegheny Mountains we have 2-3 inches of snow on the ground and another four inches on the way. Makes for nice deer hunting anyway.
