Are you always going to go out with the wife, or are you going to go solo occasionally? If always...a regular tandem will work, if not, one that is "convertible" is better.

I just looked at the Nucanoe...it appears to be a hybrid (double layer hull) canoe. There are several people on the Kayak fishing boards that swear by that type. Doesn't look like a bad design for single or tandem use. I did look at the Ocean Kayak model I referenced earlier...the Malibu 2 XL.

I would highly recommend a Yellow fishing boat. Yellow is the most visible color, and if you are in any waters with powered craft, that can be VERY important.

I'd recommend finding an "angler" equipped kayak or Nucanoe (with rod holders). You can add them later (and I added a couple to my Kayaks), but better to have a couple on the boat.

There's several good fishing books out there on Kayak fishing...look on Amazon for details.

There's also some websites

kayakfishingstuff.com
http://www.allkayakfishing.com/
http://www.pierandsurf.com/fishing-forum/

(the last has a kayak fishing forum) that I read to learn a bit before buying.

One thing to think about before purchase is how will you transport the kayak? Rooftop, truck bed, trailer? Make sure you can get it on the carrier (and get a good carrier to protect it) fairly easily....last thing you want to do is buy an expensive kayak and not use it because it's too hard to get on the car.

That's a few basic ideas...the websites and books talk about what to equip with for different fishing conditions, etc....

And, as a final thought (as a newbie myself...)..the best advice you get get is to find someone to take you out the first few times (or at the VERY least, practice in small, sheltered waters...including flipping and recovery).

And remember...Dress to Swim and Rig to Flip when you are out in a small watercraft.
