My two cents - My wife and I got a Malibu 2XL this summer and it's great. Very stable and easy to paddle. Get the 240 cm paddles at a minimum because it's wide. It's seats are adjustable and there is a position for single paddling. We learned how to get around pretty easily and it tracked pretty well. It's a sit on top. A tandem kayak is a compromise and may not be for the kayak diehard, but it's great for two folks out for fun. It's very stable (my wife stood up and moved around as a test)and a good fishing platform. It's heavy to load and we bought a Thule Glide and Set and it is a great way to load, unload and transport the bigger kayaks. I am going to make some modifications to the Glide and Set because it could disappear from a parking lot pretty easily and it isn't cheap. Not cheap, but worth the investment. We took it to the Outer Banks in October and it was a pleasure. Be sure to get scupper plugs for cooler days.
