Straw Rig

The straw rig we used to use on the pier was about 5 or 6 feet long and had 5 or 6 hooks on it. The entire rig was made out of light line with small gold aberdeen hooks and they had to be gold. I don't remember the hook size but it was smaller than the standard internet rig. All the straws were regular drinking size white or white with a red stripe straws from french fry alley. These straws were cut straight on the hook eye end and at a 45 degree angle at the hook bend. The rig was either jigged around the pilings or casted out and reeled in. This rig would catch spanish on the first try sometimes on almost every hook when the Gotcha crowd hadn't caught anything all day. This straw rig came from the Florida snow birds, some come here for the summer.
I don't have any pictures of the rig but there's some of one on Pier & Surf that's sort of like it. Also the pool noodle hook holder on it looks like a good idea, some of that black foam pipe insulation would probably work too....
