Tying rigs

Who else ties their own rigs?
I'm working on some mackerel trees. I've tied a lot of Sabiki-type rigs out of 20# and smaller for bait , but for the mackerel I'm using 30 or 40.
I tie bottom fishing rigs out of 30+ with surgeon's loops , dropper loops or a palomar to the hook and a surgeon's behind it.
With the dropper loops you can cut one side of the loop and it doesn't slip much. Makes a good looking rig too.
My question is : is there a better way that I don't know about? If I ever decide on how I'm tying my trees , I might post a picture of them.
