We had a cold snap about 10 years ago and all of the shad in the lake went belly up. You could go to the river and catch bait - keep it alive and catch tons of fish. It had to be " ALIVE " though - fish wouldn't hit dead chit for nothing. I've seen some pretty f'n crazy setups to keep bait living.

People that live on the lake used to have big bait cages that they filled before the water got cold and the fish went deep.

For landlocked Stripers a live shad is hard to beat in the middle of December.
