for the surf, I have always had good luck with squid on a 7ft med action bass rod but its definitely no guarantee. If you want a good trip thats a TON of fun and has a good chance of catching fish check out Rick Caton at Custom Sound Charters. He is one of the best there is and gives 500% all the time. I have never had a bad time on his boat.
