Mike,
Bottom line here is.......For $1000 or less about the only big fish your gonna catch is an Amberjack or if your lucky....maybe a Cobia.
Make up trips are generally a joke for you get stuck on a boat with people that you do not know and that is a real recipe for not much fun.
We ain't got alot of fishing for "Huge" fish here on the OBX in July.......or really any month.
I will say that you made a wise choice of staying in the Salvo area versus the Nags Head/Kitty Hawk/Kill Devil Hills/Corrolla area fore they are "Zoos" this time of year.
If you get on a boat and expect to catch "Really Big Fish" ...your probably gonna get your feelings hurt........don't mean to bust your bubble ..,.but that is just the way it is.
I'm sure fishing in Africa is by far better than here.
Just telling ya the way it is from a "Full Time Fisherman's Prospective"
