"PUBLIC BEWARE " when chartering a boat on the Outer Banks
As I picked up the new phone book today I flipped to the yellow pages and looked at all the "NEW CHARTERBOATS" It is amazing how many part time charterboats there are on the Outer Banks and what is even more amazing is how many "CLAIM" to have 20 to 30 years of experience....."WOW" I've never seen alot of these guys and I been around a long time. What is also very upsetting is the fact that "SELECT TACKLE STORES" are booking these guys cause they can collect a "BOOKING FEE" from them. Basically what this means is the "SELECT TACKLE" store could give a "Rat's Ass" about you or your trip.....it's all about the money. They will put you on a boat with some jackass that paid his $2000 and got his Capt. License and is generally as clueless as the day is long about the whole gig.
When booking a trip....DO NOT BOOK THROUGH A TACKLE STORE.....call the Capt.and ask him questions. Ask around about who you chose to go with ....you will thank yourself in the end. THIS HAS BEEN A PUBLIC SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT BY RICK CATON 35 "Real Years" of experience on the water
