I've used them for Rocks before and they work , but chances of catching a rock on anything goes way down when the water is warm.

They could bite you I guess , but just use a dip net to get them up out of the water and then grab them behind their head.

More of a boat bait unless you really know how to take care of them in a cooler or bucket during the summer. Too much trouble in my opinion.
