Just a couple more things : Don't forget safety equipment!!
You'll need a fire extinguisher , an air horn , one life jacket for each person on the boat , a throwable flotation device , signal flares and a first aid kit. You'll probably want a paddle too ( just in case ). I recommend getting a copy of the Coast Guard's required equipment list , it goes by the size of the boat. Nobody ever wants to use this stuff , but things can happen on the water and you need to be prepared.
2 cycle vs. 4 cycle engines : I've always had 2 cycles , but I have heard that the newer 4 cycles are pretty good. If you get a 2 cycle that has an oil reservoir and pump to automatically mix the oil and gas , check to make sure it is mixing right often. I had a friend blow up a 225 because the oil pump quit working.
I also like to keep a spare propeller and a wrench in my boat , just in case. Some people like the hydrofoils and stabilization plates , anti-cavitation plates etc. Depends on the boat I guess , but if you get a boat with power tilt/trim you should be able to get it to plane out just fine without them.
Hope this stuff helps you out! Everybody has different preferences as to how they like their boat setup , and these are all just my personal opinions.
Good luck finding a boat and let us know what you end up getting! Hopefully if I've left something out someone will come along and fill in the blanks.
