I used to trap beavers. If dogs were a problem, I would set float traps. A V made from two 24-30 inch 2x4s at a 45 degree angle. Fashion a bottom out of some plywood or thinner boards. A nail on top near the point of the V. Place a number 3 or 4 foothold trap at the open part and connect its chain to the underside with a fence staple. Cover the top with small twigs, hay, brush, etc. Stake it in deep water or use a cinder block anchor. Put an apple on the nail for bait. Cover it with hay to avoid crows from spotting it. You might want to put a little bit of gland lure on the set also as an attractant. I have caught many beavers like this and every one of them was dead by drowning when I checked traps. The biggest I ever caught weighed 59 pounds. There is also a float that uses the 330 conibears but I have never personally tried that one.
