Epic Fail- Need Help

While driving south from the northern most drivable area on ramp 44 to our house rental in Hatteras (2 weeks ago) I lost a pvc pipe and fishing rod off of my rack. It could have been on the beach or the road. The problem is, it wasn't mine. The bigger problem is, it has pretty significant sentimental value to my friend. Here are the details:

- Gold Penn International 50t Rod and reel
- 2 Inscriptions on the reel- 2 sets of initials and the years 1995 and 2005

The two inscriptions represent a father and son's initials. The son saved up all his money to buy it for his dad in 1995 and the dad put his son's intials on it in 2005 (when he sold his boat).
