It can get to a point where you can't fish one side of the pier or either side. I won't go if the waves are breaking out 200 yards. Sometimes if there's about 3 weeks with a lot of southeast wind during the summer small sailfish and dolphin can be caught from the piers. That doesn't happen very often. The big sailfish at Avalon Pier was caught there one year on a king rig.
