You might get a cobia, they like it when the water is warm and looks like the Bahamas which would be a wind blowing out of the southeast. A live spot, croaker or big piece of cut bait on a drum rig will work. The bluefish have been biting the best on a light wind blowing from the northeast. A 1"x2" piece of fresh cut bait on a mono double fireball rig works good or size 2 steel leader hooks on a regular double bottom rig. The southwest wind which is the normal during summer has been mostly croaker, spot and sea mullet. I would suggest for north of Corolla to try the wash outs which is the spots where the beach is narrow and the areas with tree stumps on the beach. Look for places with a lot of sand flea shells and pieces washed up on the beach for sea mullet, calico crab shells and pieces for puppy drum. Fish early morning, evening and high tide.
A good rig for the smaller size bottom fish is the spot/kingfish rig by Sea Striker or Mustad makes one. You can find them at the tackle shops, I like the one with the 1/2" round ball floats. The floats help stop the crabs from cleaning the hooks and works on a variety of fish. The rigs don't last very long....
