According to word of mouth or the Chamber of Commerce??
Been about 10 years since one of the Nags Head Sports rental centers was closed in peak season due to all the cottonmouths on the property.
Corolla Whalehead Club put up signs about 12 years ago, but
signs very rare. Don't want to scare away the tourists.Even tho rule of thumb is no poisonous snakes ocean side of 12, not always 100 %. Remember few years back, the big rattler killed on ramp - south of Salvo, I recall. Trucked in on semi takin break at the ramp.
Then there's the pygmy rattlers. Haven't seen one but are indigenous.
After wife about stepped on one years ago (never I.D.'d) on dune in Waves, she still doesn't walk off catwalks or pavement.
Haven't eaten one (rattler) since survival training, more than a few years back. Yeah, tastes like frog legs. Never did like snappin em to kill em tho. Always worried about ears.
