Fishing in California

Never did "rock" fishing while in CA. Collectin California jade on beaches was big then. Did however spend many a Saturday morning fishing from the jetties on Oakland Army Base 1968-69. Catchin was outstanding - non-stop. Only problems were: every 3rd retrieve was a big dungenus crab, and snaggin gulls common.

Your laugh for the day. Senior officer, a Col., would fill his antique Morris Minor station wagon w/ beer. Junior officer had to get bait for all at 0400 hrs. from closest bait store open early... and that was in Berkley. Berkley residents hostile to military at the time. Was great fun in the dark, w/ military bumper stickers, hopin no one would notice. (The laugh is that of the 6 regulars, I was the one who always had to get the bait.)

Also fished frequently in tidal canals and Clear Lake. Saw 1st and only "sea monster" at the Lake.(Before you guys jump me bout that .... there were 3 other witnesses!!)
