Not trying to stir the pot , but we all know it isn't the commercial boats fault. Is it right to kill them? No , but if the government isn't going to come up with a better plan they shouldn't let the commercial guys take stripers with nets. A fifty fish limit on a species that schools? Ridiculous. I've fished schools of stripers in freshwater that would number 300 or 400 fish or more.
A fifty fish limit could easily be taken without nets by the right crew.
Commercial and recreational fisherman should form a united front on this. It isn't confined to NC waters either , these fish go as far north as New England. Maybe a reg that would make sense would be setting one net per day or week for stripers?
It's none of my business really , but I wouldn't interfere with a man's right to feed his family OR support this wasteful system that is in place now.
