The flounder , spot and mullet were all caught on a basic two hook bottom rig using shrimp and bloodworms.
The Spanish Mackerel and blues were caught on Gotcha Lures , with the exception of one bluefish on a bottom rig with shrimp.
The Sheepheads and pompano were a little different. I caught those with something similar to a bottom fishing rig , but longer. Tie a swivel on a 6 foot piece of 40 pound mono , then tie a dropper loop about 1 foot below this. Put a hook on the dropper loop and tie a sinker at the bottom , I never used more than two ounces because the sinker is usually what spooks them. When the water is clear you can see the sheepheads and pompanos feeding on the barnacles around the pier pilings. When I was down , they were feeding at the top and that makes them harder to catch. Sand Fleas for the sheepheads , Shrimp for the Pompano. Hold the line between your fingers and let the rig and bait slowly into the water beside the piling , a splash will spook the fish.
The skates and rays were all caught on a canonball rig that I use for drum , except for one that hit a Gotcha. @#$% Skate got one of my favorite Gotchas too - he was too big to handle on the light rod I use for lures.
Hope that helps!
